Subtext: I have to start this one by saying I’m not affiliated with FreshMail.com.
I have used a lot of email based marketing software …and most have a steep learning curve (I’ll come back to this point).
I think that FreshMail is the best on boarding User Experience I have had. World Class!
On opening the site you are presented with an elegant, simple, workflow.
Moving seamlessly and interactively into a “how to” sequence…The first highlighted feature is “subscribers” – your audience.
Subscribers – @PaulCroubalian dealt with this issue effectively a few weeks ago. I have nothing to add here…
“Use your address database to create your subscriber list by importing it or entering it manually. If you don’t have any contacts yet, create a sign-up form and place it on your website.”
Campaigns
“Start creating your email marketing campaigns here. The system will guide you step by step through the process.”
Library (Templates)
“Create your first newsletter template to dazzle your subscribers. You can use ready-made templates and edit them as you like or upload your own. ”
“Personalize your profile”
I think the design here is outstanding on many levels. It is intuitive, simple, adaptive, driving you further into the platform using a creative combination of good psychology, uncluttered design and flow.
Try it for yourself
Postscript: Of all of the apocryphal stories attributed to Steve Jobs – this one has value for me…One day, he tossed a child an i pod – almost immediately the child understood it, drawing delight and wonder from a magical music box.
To conclude …
Design is a way of life, a point of view. It involves the whole complex of visual communications: talent, creative ability, manual skill, and technical knowledge. Aesthetics and economics, technology and psychology are intrinsically related to the process.
